SCITT School Direct

The School Direct training programme is for graduates who want to train as part of the school team. You will undertake the Autumn and Summer term placement in a host school and during the Spring term be placed in a contrasting school and year group within the partner consortium. The course runs in line with the school terms in Somerset. You will attend a minimum of 45 training days during the programme.

Learning and assessment

There will be a range of teaching, learning and assessment methods including lectures, workshops, peer group activities, seminars, directed reading, independent research, directed study, presentations, tutorials, fieldwork and use of both formative and summative assessment which draw upon evidence, reflection, analysis and evaluations. All School Direct trainees will be required to complete a PGCE alongside their training; this is awarded by the University of Worcester.

Teaching and learning strategies

In relation to teaching and learning strategies each modules will enable trainees to aspire to be autonomous learners; provide a programme which embraces key/transferrable skills; disseminate good practice in learning and teaching; support trainees of varying experiences, needs and backgrounds and monitor the quality of their experience.

Trainees will be expected to develop critical and evaluative understanding of the processes and practice of effective learning through demonstration of knowledge, skills and understanding related to high quality and effective practice. Trainees will develop a clear framework for their own professional values and demonstrate a critical and reflective attitude towards their practice, showing an articulation of the interdependent relationship of practice and theory.

Audience

Graduates looking for a school-centre route in to primary or early years teaching
This route is suitable for those with a wealth of classroom experience or other experience gained from another educational setting.
To undertake the PGTA route you will need to have a school who is willing to support and pay your salary for the duration of the programme.

Entry Requirements

An honours degree from a UK Higher Education Institute or equivalent from NARIC
GCSE Maths, English and Science at Grade C/4 or above

We accept applications from candidates who are currently studying for any of the above qualifications.

Any offers made would be conditional on you meeting the entry requirements, which must be gained and proof of evidence provided by 31st August.

An enhanced clearance from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) regarding suitability to work with young people
Fitness to teach declaration
A reference demonstrating you are suitable to work with Children and Vulnerable adults

Finance Information

Standard tuition fees apply. You may be eligible for student finance to cover fees and maintenance.
