Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HTLAs) are highly skilled practitioners that work under the guidance of a teacher within clearly defined roles and responsibilities relevant to their own educational setting. They are experienced practitioners who offer specialist support for learning across the breadth of the curriculum.
This level 4 Higher Level Teaching Assistant Certificate is a regulated qualification approved by Ofqual and allows learners to demonstrate to employers that they have the necessary knowledge and skills to fulfil the role of a HTLA.

This course will provide learners with the knowledge and understanding to analyse and meet the challenges that teaching assistants may encounter. Learners will also gain knowledge and skills to work with individuals and groups, gaining insight into supporting learners with special educational needs. The learning outcomes for the course are closely aligned to the 33 HTLA Professional Standards. You will provide a portfolio of evidence via our virtual learning environment as well as having observations of your practice in the workplace.

To be eligible to undertake this qualification, you need to meet the following entry requirements:
- Be a Teaching Assistant (paid or voluntary) in a school.
- Have the support of your school and headteacher for the duration of the course.
- Appropriate level 2 qualifications in literacy and numeracy.

Teaching Assistants who wish to become a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, or those already in the position who would like to consolidate their skills.
